Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effect of the group art therapy parenting education program about parents¡¯ nurturing self-efficacy and emotional competency and to examine the potential usability of drawing tests, such as K-HTP and PPAT, for measuring the emotional aspects of the participants. The participants were 14 women who had a child or children at the age between 4 and 5, and they participated in the 10 sessions of the group art therapy which was provided for 120 minutes once a week. The quantitative and qualitative data collection were conducted before and after the 10 sessions of the group art therapy to measure the participants' change in nurturing self-efficacy and emotional competency. The results indicated that the participants¡¯ nurturing self-efficacy and emotional competency improved significantly after the program. The current study contributed to adding evidence of the group art therapy on the parents nurturing self-efficacy and emotional competency given the paucity of the literature on the effectiveness of parent education programs using group art therapy. In addition, the study also revealed that the drawing tests were worthwhile to comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness of group art therapy for parenting education.
